This Privacy Policy describes how Typevia (“Typevia,” “we,” or “us”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal information when you use our collaborative LaTeX editing platform and related services (the “Service”).

By accessing or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our practices, please do not use the Service.

This Privacy Policy should be read alongside our Terms of Service, which govern your use of the Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password. If you sign up using a third-party service (such as Google), we receive your name and email address from that service.

1.2 Usage Data. We automatically collect information about how you interact with the Service, including pages visited, features used, timestamps, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers. This data helps us improve the Service and diagnose technical issues.

1.3 Document Data. When you use the Service, your LaTeX documents, project files, and collaboration data are stored on our servers to provide the Service. We do not access your document content except as necessary to operate the Service (e.g., compiling LaTeX to PDF).

1.4 Cookies and Similar Technologies. We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and analyze Service usage. You can control cookie settings through your browser, though disabling cookies may limit certain features.

2. How We Use Your Information

2.1 Providing the Service. We use your information to operate, maintain, and improve the Service, including compiling your LaTeX documents, enabling real-time collaboration, managing your account, and processing payments.

2.2 Communications. We may use your email address to send you Service-related notices (e.g., account verification, security alerts, billing updates). You can opt out of non-essential communications at any time.

2.3 Analytics and Improvement. We use aggregated and anonymized usage data to understand how the Service is used, identify trends, and make improvements. This data cannot be used to identify individual users.

2.4 No Training on Your Content. We do not use your documents, LaTeX source files, or any User Content to train machine learning or artificial intelligence models. Your academic work remains yours.

3. How We Share Your Information

3.1 Collaborators. When you invite collaborators to a project or workspace, they will be able to see your display name, email address, and any content within the shared project. You control who has access to your projects through the Service's sharing settings.

3.2 Service Providers. We share information with third-party service providers who assist us in operating the Service, such as cloud hosting providers, payment processors, and email delivery services. These providers are contractually required to protect your information and may only use it to provide services to us.

3.3 Legal Requirements. We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, in response to a valid legal process (such as a court order or subpoena), or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Typevia, our users, or others.

3.4 Business Transfers. If Typevia is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or prominent notice on the Service before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

4. Data Security

4.1 Security Measures. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, secure authentication with hashed passwords (Argon2), and regular security assessments.

4.2 Incident Response. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law and take immediate steps to mitigate any harm.

4.3 Your Responsibility. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. We recommend using a strong, unique password and enabling any additional security features we offer.

5. Data Retention

5.1 Account Data. We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.

5.2 Document Data. Your documents and project files are retained for as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion, your documents are permanently deleted within 30 days. We recommend exporting your work before deleting your account.

5.3 Usage Logs. Aggregated and anonymized usage data may be retained indefinitely for analytical purposes. Server logs containing IP addresses and request data are retained for up to 90 days.

6.1 Access and Portability. You have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. You can export your documents at any time through the Service.

6.2 Correction. You can update your account information at any time through your profile settings. If you believe any information we hold is inaccurate, you can contact us to request a correction.

6.3 Deletion. You can delete your account at any time through the Service settings. You may also request deletion of specific personal information by contacting us at [email protected].

6.4 Objection and Restriction. Where we process your information based on legitimate interests, you have the right to object to such processing. You may also request that we restrict processing of your information in certain circumstances.

7. International Data Transfers

7.1 Transfer Mechanisms. Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. When we transfer data internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

8. Children's Privacy

8.1 Age Requirement. The Service is not directed to children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we become aware that a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information.

9. Changes to This Policy
